Why Use Essential Oil-Scented Holiday Decorations?
We’re going to start with this: home fragrance is magic. There’s something so beautiful about the scents we use in our homes that can even be charged to bring back powerful emotions and memories making the holiday season even more special. Indeed, essential oils especially, provide a natural way to fill your home with joyful and calming smells.
Not only is it a way to make your house odor fantastic, but using essential oil-scented holiday decorations is about creating a warm inviting atmosphere and promoting the holiday spirit. From cinnamon and clove to pine, this season, HBNO has essential oils to create any festive mood.
Getting Started with Scented Holiday Decorations
Here are some of my tried-and-true ideas for incorporating essential oils into your holiday decor:
1. DIY Essential Oil Ornaments
A beautiful-smelling Christmas tree that looks beautiful? With only a few basic materials, you can create your essential oil–scented ornaments.
- What You’ll Need: Some clay or wooden ornaments, a few drops of your favorite HBNO essential oils (like Frankincense, Myrrh, or Orange), and a paintbrush.
- Instructions: Dab a couple of drops of your selected essential oil onto every ornament. In order to get a more even scent distribution, you can go ahead and apply the oil with a paintbrush. Put the ornaments on your tree and you’ll be greeted with a subtle aroma of the room.
Personal Tip: I made a set of cinnamon and clove-scented ornaments this year using HBNO Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil. I think my tree smelled like something beautiful because all of my guests just couldn’t get over how great it smelled.
2. Scented Pine Cones for a Festive Centerpiece
Holiday decoration-wise, pine cones are a classic, but with a strange twist of scent, they are even more special.
- What You’ll Need: HBNO Pine Needle and Cedarwood essential oils, a resealable plastic bag, and a decorative bowl.
- Instructions: Put the pine cones in the plastic bag and add a few drops of Pine Needle and Cedarwood essential oils in there. Put the bag in and let the scent infuse for 24 hours. When you are ready, it will look lovely arranged like this in a festive bowl as a centerpiece with that smell of a winter forest.
Fun Fact: Additionally, Pine Needle Essential Oil is refreshing and grounding, which works perfectly to bring a little coziness to the air during the holidays.
3. Essential Oil-Infused Wreaths
An immediate holiday ambiance is achieved by a wreath on your front door or above your fireplace. Scent it with essential oils and take it up a notch.
- What You’ll Need: HBNO Eucalyptus, Orange or Clove essential oils, a small spray bottle filled with water, and a fresh or faux wreath.
- Instructions: The spray bottle is where you mix just a few drops of chosen essential oils with water. Spritz the wreath lightly, not oversaturating it. Change the scent every few days as you need.
Personal Experience: Using HBNO Eucalyptus Essential Oil on my holiday wreath is one of my favorites. When my guests enter, they’re greeted by a fresh crisp, clean scent – perfect for holiday gatherings.

2. Scented Holiday Garlands
Traditionally, it’s a holiday tradition to string up garlands — have you ever considered scenting them, instead? If you don’t like to spend money buying garland at the store, you can use dried fruit, cinnamon sticks, and even small sprigs of rosemary to make your garland.
- What You’ll Need: Dried fruit slices, twine, cinnamon sticks, rosemary, and HBNO essential oils such as Lemon or Clove.
